2021 TREND FORCAST

There’s no two ways about it: 2020 was a doozy. I think we all are ready to put this year behind us and to start fresh with a new chapter: 2021 bring it on. That being said, the vibe of 2021 is evolving from the stuggles of this crazy year. With a pandemic, economic & political instabilities, new rules of socialization, we rise to a new level.

Read on for our official predicitions about next years aesthetic for home, art, and framing,

THE MOOD

As I already mentioned, this year was A LOT. From these struggles, I think we all learned a lot about ourselves, what makes us happy, and felt a new appreciation for the little things in life that add value. Together as a culture we are moving away from sterile minimalism in favor of a more “human” feel. Something about being stuck in our houses for months really makes you appreciate having warm, loving interiors. Our homes are our sanctuaries in a way they have never been before- by state mandate.

That being said, as we move into 2021 we are looking towards more humanized design trends. The big buzz words floating out there are “humanized minimalism”, “grandmillenial”, and “cottage core”. The commonalities between all these is that the style is actually moving away from “trends” and more towards warm, personalized interiors. This style also works well in essence with a continued shift towards sustainability and ecofriendly materials.

COLOR PALETTES

I reviewed the forecasted color palettes from 4 major paint companies. As you will see, all of them share the same aesthetic as they predict what will be big in color for the upcoming year. The broad trend is to move away from the cold and industrious and towards warmer, organic colors.

MATERIALS

Following the mood & predicted colors, there will be certain materials more favored by designers in this upcoming year and others that will be left in the dumpster fire of 2020.

IN: soft toned pottery, concrete, brick, rattan, antiqued metals, overstuffed shapes, soft finishes.

OUT: matte black elements, clear furniture, shiplap walls, barn doors, industrial steel elements

Check out some pieces from the AAL collection that fit well with 2021’s style. Featuring art from local Seattle artists: Andre Moreno, Suze Woolf, Deborah Eve Alastra, and more in our PNW Collection.
